Cut & Sew 

JOB TRAINING MDA, Reading Connection, and Industry of the Blind provide Cut and Sew classes to assist clients who are seeking employment, and this program was developed to help clients with jobs skills and English literacy. 

Instructor:  Liana Adrong & Erik Hill

When: 8:30AM to 11:30 AM, Monday-Friday for 5 weeks

Where: Industry of the Blind, 920 W. Gate City Blvd

Cost:  Free for Refugees under 5 years

$50 donation to the office for immigrants/refugees over 5 years

HERITAGE: ARTS AND CULTURE CLASSES 

Learn Backstrap Weaving 

Heritage. Backstrap weaving is practiced by communities throughout the world, with the basic technique and tools recognized by weavers and artisans in Asia, African and the Americas. It is also practiced by Montagnards, the indigenous people of Vietnam's Central Highlands and here in North Carolina, the largest community of our people to be found outside of Southeast Asia. 

Instructor: Aduon Nie

Class will take place once a week. 

Cost: $100 per semester

Learn Montagnard Traditional Music: Čing 

Heritage. Dance, music and food together form an important part of Montagnards, the indigenous people of Vietnam's Central Highlands and here in North Carolina, the largest community of our people to be found outside of Southeast Asia. Some Montagnard traditional music uses the Čing, or gong.

Speak the Languages of Montagnards 

Celebrating the United Nations Year of Indigenous Language

Heritage. Class take place once a week. Recital, kids recite. Reading and writing basics. Appreciation of language and culture. GCS schedule rain, snow. At the completion of the course learners will appreciate the basics of language writing and reading and have a deeper understanding of Montagnard culture. At the end of class we will have a recital and small celebration.

Cost: $100 per semester

Our youth program is intended to inspire and train the next generation of Montagnard and Southeast Asian youth about the basic life skills they need to succeed in school, college or on the job. These are short workshops designed to get you started on a path to success.
